Since 1958, the Academic Year Internship Program has provided exciting opportunities for high school juniors and seniors in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Through internships, students are paired with community professionals to gain experience and knowledge in their intended post-secondary fields of study, and/or careers. The honors Academic Year Internship Program is designed to give students real-life work experiences, helping them discover first-hand what it takes to be successful in that particular career field. Student interns receive honors course credit.

The internship experience gives students a chance to gain real world, hands-on experience, make lasting professional connections, and discover more about their interest and proficiency along a specific career path. Internship experiences are linked to students’ future career goals in order to make learning more engaging and relevant. The business partners who hire these students as interns benefit from the efforts of enthusiastic, prepared, and highly conscientious workers and get the chance to train and recruit future employees.
